A History of Kyderria

The Dragon Era

(Beginning of time - 1000DE)

Nosferatu came upon this lifeless world and decided to bring life to it. He created many forms of life all equal and unintelligent. The world prospered under the hands of Nosferatu. Then Nosferatu had to leave his beautiful world and he decided that he would create two races to look over his creation in his absence. Thus the dragon race and the Sidhe race was born to watch over the world. Nosferatu gave these races several gifts to help them with their task. He gave them superior intelligence, magic and long life span. To the dragons he gave also gave the gift of flight and to the Sidhe he gave even greater magic and a great love of the land. The dragons started to settle into their on communities preferring mountains or valleys for their homes. The Sidhe building cities of great power.

But Nosferatu did not count on his brother finding his new world. The Nameless, as he shall be called from now on by edict of Nosferatu, came across this world purely by chance and was very jealous of his brother for creating such a perfect world. So he began warping the world to his like. First he began with the dragons, who were in total harmony with the world, splitting them up and causing feuds within the race. Some dragons began separating into groups of good and evil while others followed order and chaos. While others still fell in between these groups as each grouped developed and grew further apart so did their color. Then turning his attention to the Sidhe he cursed them never to be able to have pure children on this world again. The majority of the Sidhe could not live with the idea of no children so they created several moongates to a new land called Arcadia. The nameless then laid ruin to all the Sidhe cities.

The Development of the Race of Shades

(1000 DE- 0 DE)

The Nameless was not happy with just warping his brothers creation. He then decided to create a race himself. He joined the spirits of the dead with the magic of the world to form a race of magical undead creatures called Shades. The Shades began by feeding on the life force of the creatures of the world. The shades were a very short lived race in the beginning. The Nameless was not satisfied with his new race yet. So with the guidance of the Nameless the shades continued to grow in the darkness of the world without the dragons even noticing them. Until one day a group of shades killed and devoured a young dragon with the help and guidance of the Nameless. By feeding of the dragon these shades lived a lot longer then any others and they learn from this and taught other shades the value of dragons blood to their life. As the shades continued hunting young dragons in groups, the great dragons started to notice them but they were already in a lazy state of mind and were very slow to act. By this time the shades had gain in strength and intelligence also had developed magic of their own.

The Great War

(0 GW -10000 GW)

Nosferatu returned to his world to check on things and was appalled at what his brother did. The brothers knowing that they were equal in power decided that they would let the mortals of this world decide on the outcome of the world. Nosferatu rallied the dragons to a common cause of defeating the shades. The shades needed nothing to motivate them since they lived off the dragon's blood. Thus began a 10,000 year war between the shades and the dragons. At first it looked like the shades were going to eliminate the dragons off the face of the world but as the number of dragons was reduced so was the power of the shades. The war continued on with neither side actually being able to eliminate the other because the shades strength was linked to the number of dragons in the world.

Seeing that there would be no end to this war Nosferatu secretly enlisted the help of some friends. He asked his friends to secretly develop more races on this world so to tip the balance in his favor. Since the world was originally Nosferatu's his friends agreed to help him. Xorphox created a race of elves. Ratskwah created a race closely related to the elves called the Sitha. Both Xorphox and Ratskwah developed their races from the Sidhe that remained behind. Noyoki favoring cats created a race of felines called the Lynx. Maleficent developed a race of sprites. Loki brought life to short well built race of grolls. Jaldis thinking size could help developed a race of giants called Titans. Athyra created a beautiful race of humans. Last but not least Corsair developed a race based on the spiders called the Arachnoids. During this war the races were allowed to develop being left alone by both dragons and shades. These races were given something neither the dragons nor the shades had. They were given the knowledge to make tools and from the tools they made weapons and armor. They also built huge cities the first two being Medwain and Ontara. The gods also taught their people the value of specialization. The races than began to specialize into classes. First were the Knights to protect the cities. Then came rogues and scholars. The scholars studied the dragon and shades and learned of their magic and how it works. These scholars then broke into more specialized fields of warlocks, druids, and Priests. When the races were completed the Gods informed Nosferatu. The Nameless was caught completely unaware of the development of the other races and knew he was doomed. So the Nameless was banished from the world and his name never spoke again in fear that he would return.

Balance Rules

(0 BR - 1000 BR)

Nosferatu was unable to bring himself to destroy any race completely so left the shades alone even though he knew that they would continue to feed on his race of dragons. Nosferatu looked after both the dragons and shades but would grant no favors to either. With the war being over, the dragons and shades finding an equalization point in numbers both being very rare in comparison the other races of the world. Nosferatu in thanks to the other Gods offered them and their races a place to stay forever. In addition he gave each God an artifact of great power to be given to the strongest and fastest of each race.

Even with the nameless banished he still could influence things on this world. The Nameless then created a world with the sole purpose of creating havoc on our world. He converted some of each race to his purpose and brought them to his world to form the grey cult of the nameless. Then he built great gates between worlds but gave them lots of restrictions to use hoping that this would hide them from the our Gods eyes. The nameless then cursed the artifacts that Nosferatu created. The artifacts could only remain in our world only as long as they were carried by a live person. Once that person died the artifact would be transported to his realm at the center of his temple.

History of the Cities

"A city would be built. A city to serve as the center of trade, technology and knowledge for all the realms, and this city would be known as Medwain."

Aye, yes I remember the story well. The great father, Nosferatu, creator of our world, designed and built the city of Medwain as the capital of our new civilization. And so it was- until after the Great War between the armies of Nosferatu and the Nameless.

This tale has been passed down in my family for generations, for we are the keepers of the "Book of Groll". It is said that the story was given to us for safekeeping by Loki, God of Grolls and weaver of tales.

Following the close of the Great War the Grolls wanted nothing more than to return to their mountian homes. To be one with the mountain and to mourn their losses was the primary goal of the remaining Grolls. It mattered not to them that the other races they had fought alongside were celebrating the Great Victory. This was not the way of the Groll and they longed to return to their forges and mines.

Upon their return to the Mountains the Grolls realized all was not how they left it. Their tunnels and caverns had been overrun by renegade dragons and Shades. The treasure they had amassed before the war now served as the beds for many a greedy dragon. The Grollish elders met to discuss this sacrilege, and it was decided that they would fight to regain their homes. Calling upon the great Fyst for strength and guidance they mounted an offensive that carried dire consequences.

The Grolls were not only outnumbered, but terribly overmatched, they met with terrible losses and defeat. Once again the Grolls launched an attack and once again they failed. It became apparant that in order to regain their homes and mines they would have to ask for assistance. Swallowing their pride, the Elders sent an envoy to Medwain to seek help.

The residents of that city and the veterans of the army were still celebrating a well-won victory. Brennus, the Grollish leader appealed to the other generals for assistance. After explaining his people's plight he recieved and answer. The Humans, Elves, Sprites and Arachnoids, wanted no part of this fight. Instead they suggested the Grolls find a new home. Such a solution was unacceptable to Brennus, and he became angry. However, in order to save their homes, the Grollish leader swallowed his pride once again and asked the council to reconsider.
