Arachnoids

Of Kyderria

With the creation of Dragons and Shades in Nosferatu's world, came the destruction of the Endless War. The skirmishes between the two superior races was never ending and always violent.

The Nameless One had created a superior and scavenging race of beings whose very existence was linked to the propagation of the Dragons. They fought each other and depended on each other for survival equitably. One could never out kill the other, leaving both in a terrible struggle against mutual dependency.

His new world being destroyed and the peace continuously shattered, Nosferatu called upon his friends to create races themselves, to balance the power of the Shades and Dragons, and to be allies in the Endless War.

One such Goddess was Myrjana. Immediately acting upon Nosferatu's plead for assistance and some means to help his world, Myrjana sets to the task of creating a race of beings that would prove helpful in the war against the Nameless and his Shades. Finding it difficult to decide what would be most helpful, Myrjana sought the comfort and company of her pet spider, Arachnied. Watching it calmly spin it's delicately ominous web, she meditates on it's precision, methodology, and cleverness. Wanting to reward her beloved spider, she makes him a changeling, and the very first Arachnoid.

Spidery humanoids, the Arachnoids are small-framed, wiry, agile, and mysteriously cunning. Arachnoids are able to jump high and scurry quickly and are naturally resistant to some attacks. Imbued with a thirst for knowledge and a special affinity for magic, this people were expert magic casters and users. In the war, their quickness and ability to sidestep oncoming attacks were an asset against the lumbering Shades.

But in an independent war against the Lynx, in which the Arachnoids were defeated and their powers reduced, the ability to cast rudimentary magic and an awareness of the presence of magic was all that was left to them. Being defeated by the Lynx and their more advanced magic, Arachnoids became bitter, with an intense hatred toward those especially inclined towards magic. They vowed to eventually defeat their enemies, the Lynx, and cause them the same hurt and humiliation that was dealt to the spider race. There have since and still are hostilities between the two, violent flare-ups have appeared through time...

Their mastery over magic lost, the Arachnoids learned other skills and became adept fighters. The magic that they did retain was mostly for defensive purposes.

Myrjana, wishing to bestow upon her race of beings a special gift to set them apart, gave Arachnoids the ability to immobilize their victims with a deadly web attack, making the casting of magic against them impossible for the duration and allowing the Arachnoids to have their spidery way with their victims. Everyone knows spiders have a penchant for blood.

Satisfied with her creation, Myrjana now rests quietly on her web, waiting for visitors...

Of Kivekia

Arachnoids do not exist anywhere within Kyderria. However, there is a race that makes its home in an isolated location somewhere near the Kivekian continents that has similar abilities, even though appearances are very different.
